COVID Updates August, 2022

Q1: How do we respond to persons with COVID or COVID symptoms in school?
A:  State Rule 64D-3.049 is still in effect.  Students with symptoms consistent with COVID-19 or who have tested positive for COVID-19 shall not attend school, school-sponsored activities, or be on school property until:
  1. Five days have passed since symptom onset (or positive test result if asymptomatic), they are fever-free for 24 hours and their symptoms are improving; OR
  2. They have a negative COVID test and are asymptomatic OR
  3. They have a doctor’s note to return to school.
To calculate dates for return based on the five-day rule:
Date of symptom onset         +        6 calendar days    =    Date of Return
(Date of test if no symptoms)                                                    (if no fever, symptoms improving)

This same rule will apply to positive staff members as well.
Q2: Do students who are close contact with a positive person need to quarantine?

A:  No.  Students and staff who are close contact to someone with COVID should continue to go to school/work unless they develop symptoms or test positive for COVID.  At the point they develop symptoms or test positive, they should isolate at home and follow the steps to return to school outlined in Q1.

Q3: Can we accept at-home negative tests this year to return students and staff who are experiencing COVID symptoms?

A:  Yes.  We will accept at-home negative tests for both students and staff as long as they can show proof of the test (either a printout of their result or a picture of their test result), AND they have no symptoms.  See Q1, #2 for returning to school/work.
